Street breakfast, the greek breakfast way

470

The concept “Greek breakfast” may seem to you as an anecdote but it’s not. Every morning Greeks wake up; prepare their coffee and head off to work trying to cooperate with all the traffic etc. The typical Greek breakfast is the traditional cheese pie on the go, bought from the local bakery or Greek yoghurt with honey and dry fruits bought from the super market. But let’s face it Greeks are not as proactive as other Europeans as far as the breakfast is concerned. We do not share the same breakfast philosophy as Nothern Europeans do.  This does not mean that we do not consider breakfast as the most important meal of the day but still.  There are a lot of nice spots in the center of Athens where anyone can taste authentic Greek delicacies made from scratch.

Below you can find the top 10 places in Athens were you can enjoy the authentic greek breakfast experience.

  1. Ariston (10, Voulis str.) For more than a century it remains the top spot in the center of Athens for short crusted cheese pie although there is a wide variety of pies such as potato pie, eggplant pie etc.
  2. Mam (Pesmazoglou & Stadiou str.) Tasty cheese pies for just a €1 will beat your morning munchies.
  3. Stani (10, Kotopouli str., Omonia Sq) everyone who loves rice puddings should visit this place to taste the real thing. Stani was established in the early 30s and still uses the same recipe to create one the best rice puddings in town.
